{"id":8,"date":"2018-08-15T14:19:01","date_gmt":"2018-08-15T14:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/potteriesoftrenton.org\/?page_id=8"},"modified":"2019-09-30T19:32:13","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T19:32:13","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/potteriesoftrentonsociety.org\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Potteries of Trenton Society (POTS) is a New Jersey non-profit corporation.&nbsp; Our mission is to promote the study and appreciation of Trenton\u2019s ceramic industry by:&nbsp; gathering and preserving information related to the industry, sponsoring research projects, seminars and conferences, and promoting industry-related heritage tourism activities.<\/p>\n<p>Please explore our website, and if you have any questions or information to share, contact us here.<\/p>\n<p>Why Trenton?<\/p>\n<p>In the 19th and early 20th centuries Trenton, New Jersey was a center of American ceramic manufacture, and its products were shipped all over the country, literally from coast to coast.&nbsp; Among the Trenton pottery industry\u2019s accomplishments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the city was one of two major ceramic producing centers in the United States, rivaled only by East Liverpool, Ohio<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">table and kitchen wares from Trenton&#8217;s potteries were used in dining rooms and kitchens across America during the late 1800s<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Thomas Maddock, one of Trenton\u2019s ceramic leaders, refined the flush mechanism for the toilet<\/li>\n<li>several firms in Trenton perfected the mass production of sanitary ware (<span style=\"color: #000000;\">wash sets<\/span>, bathtubs, sinks and toilets)<\/li>\n<li>J. L.
